Beautiful day yesterday – got the boat de-rigged and ready to lower the mast today. I’m in a pre-mo spot for lowering the mast. A bulkhead in front of the boat, will facilitate easy maneuvering once she comes down. To remind myself of a few details, I reviewed my mast raising video from last year – what a silly video, that isn’t very helpful. Got my new Canon EOS Rebel.. to replace my MIA Nikon D40. I’ll get a chance to compare the two. They are virtually the same, except the Canon is 8MP while the Nikon was only 6MP. So far, I miss the Nikon. The Canon makes alot of noise when you shoot a pic, and I haven’t figured out how to turn that off yet.

Ben,
Looks like fun. I was tempted to go out myself Friday, but 35Kt and higher gusts persuaded me not too. Now I feel like a real wimp out here in California, afraid of a capful of wind…
On the camera- I think it’s a mechanical shutter.

You’ll enjoy the EOS but you’ll have to bow to the Nikon snobs. (kidding)
I’ve enjoyed Canon SLRs for years starting with the 35mm FTBn and FI. I often wish I had the XTi model. (aging eyes appreciate the larger preview display) Otherwise I really like the price/features of the XT … it has been rock solid as I bought it as soon as it was released. $$$ I’d love to be able to justify some of the premium Canon lens options, but am very satisfied and couldn’t be be more impressed with my two Tamron XR DiII zooms. Small, light and reasonably priced – 17-50mm and 28-300mm. BTW … your photos look great above.
